Walter Lange loved watches and the organization his grandfather founded in 1845, within the village of Glashütte. Trained like a watch manufacturing company, he understood watches thoroughly and labored for quite some time at the organization, sitting behind every possible bench, focusing on pieces that bore his family’s name. Yet, in 1948, the organization was expropriated through the East German government and merged along with other local manufactures as GUB (Glashütter Uhrenbetriebe), a wrist watch factory producing affordable, run-of-the-mill watches.
